Educationist for over four decades in Sri Lanka and Nigeria. Upali was the Divisional Director of CIMA Sri Lanka from 1985 to 2010. He held the position of Executive Director South Asia Consultancy for CIMA. He had carried out consultancies with corporate entities during 2010 to 2015. Last assignment was as the Associate Principal Wesley College 2015-16.

He was with Seylan Bank PLC for 6 years (1990/1996), 14 years at NDB PLC (2000/2014). He had been a Branch Manager, Regional Manager, Senior Manager Project Management and was the Head of Business Planning, MIS & System Development. He had also been a Insurance broker for over 5 years (1992/1997), Manager at CSFSL for 2 & ½ years (1997/2000). He acquired a new skill in IT Project Management at Millennium Information Technologies Pvt Ltd (MIT) , which is a member of London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) during 2014/2016 period. He has been a Business/Financial/Management/Investment consultant since year 2012. He is accredited in Management Accountancy, Banking, Marketing and Investment Advisory. Advisor to Board of Directors of Groups of Companies since 2014.
